Social Marketing Reveals The Cheats & Scammers

By TheAntiHype | February 14, 2008

Hi, I don't remember seeing you here before. If you're new here, welcome. If you despise the hype on the net as much as me & like a laugh, keep up to date with my latest posts by subscribing to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting! The Anti Hype

Last night I downloaded and read and then re-read the EXCELLENT Authority BlackBook about Web 2.0 Marketing. Written by Jack Humphrey this is the definitive book about Social Marketing. Forget all those other courses and e-books currently being peddled (although some are actually quite good) and read this. If you are serious about an online presence then you need to read this 64 page book.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book to anyone, oh yes and it’s free of course!

Authority Black Book

A comment on the first page (actually page 7) captured my interest (wearing my TheAntiHype mask) & I quote:

“And the most honest, upstanding, even church-going people in the real world will turn into cheating. conniving, cutthroat, black-hat marketers and scam artists online if they think they can get away with it.”

Now that’s right up my street. I like that type of talk! That is 100% the way it is. And you my friend are the guru-fodder that these tricks are aimed at.

It is almost as though people believe that real world ethics, morals and principles do not apply online. Why is that?

I have no evidence to support this but I believe that this kind of thing went on (and probably still does) in the direct mail world. Why is that?

Faceless. And no contact details or almost impossible to contact!

How many times have you visited a website, particularly a Bad Guru website, and seen full contact details? It is so easy to hide behind a computer (OK maybe not literally) and a Help Desk. Things are a little different when the customer is standing right in front of you or at the other end of the phone.

Recently I was amazed to see a high profile guy give out his Skype details and openly suggested people call. I tried 3 times and the guy was always offline!

As long as people think they can get away with it - and there is no evidence to suggest they can’t - I’m afraid they will.

The answer is NOT regulation. All regulation ever achieves is some massive body that becomes totally corrupt or inept (probably both) and simply motivates the bad guys to think up other methods.

No, the solution is education of the guru fodder. There are enough good guys who can teach and will continue to do so in an ethical and non-hyped way.

Download Jack’s book now and get a taste of what I mean
